This is a great tale. My grandfather John Millar Watt was an illustrator who created the advertising campaign “More Hops in Ben Truman” for the brewery in his semi-retirement from a career drawing the comic strip POP of the Daily Sketch (1921-1972). The coloured key fob in your picture of memorabilia is the Long John Silver-like character Millar Watt used in the campaign. He lived in East Anglia for the greater part of his life and it’s nice to hear people remember that artwork from the A45 billboards!

I remember the ad campaign.
On the A45 between Ipswich and Stowmarket there used to be a giant roadside poster telling as that ‘There are more hops in Ben Truman’s’..That was about 1960.
