2 undergraduate friends of mine shared an old flat on Bow Common Lane that had a very nice view. I loved the busy hustle and bustle walking from the tube station to the Arts Faculty at the college.

It feels part of my family history as Mile End Place is so close to the former Three Crowns at 237 Mile End Road – which was for many years the pub of my 2nd great granduncle Rowland Hirst – and other family members must have visited.

Many happy memories of street parties and a great community. it certainly has a magical feel.

I lived at number 4 and my friend Dorothy Rendell lived at number 12.

You wrote a series of pieces about Dorothy as she was also an accomplished artist.
