There are some nice places around the Mile End area - lovely old properties in some of the turnings behind Queen Mary College (when I was a student in the early to mid 90s the medical students shared them).
2 undergraduate friends of mine shared an old flat on Bow Common Lane that had a very nice view. I loved the busy hustle and bustle walking from the tube station to the Arts Faculty at the college.

Agree with Andy.
Working class history is much more fascinating that that of kings and queens.
Poor Mrs Johnson. But street parties, uugghh!

Lovely to read about and see this favourite place of mine. It feels part of my family history as Mile End Place is so close to the former Three Crowns at 237 Mile End Road - which was for many years the pub of my 2nd great granduncle Rowland Hirst - and other family members must have visited.

Ho fabulous dear author,
I lived in that street for 17 years in the house with the mulberry tree.
Many happy memories of street parties and a great community. it certainly has a magical feel.
My friends Ian and Emily lived at No19 at that time with their daughter Iris. Nice to know who lived there before - thank you so much for publishing this account

I was lucky enough to live in Mile End Place for 17 years until 2019. I lived at number 4 and my friend Dorothy Rendell lived at number 12.

You wrote a series of pieces about Dorothy as she was also an accomplished artist.

I can’t thank you enough, Gentle Author, for your work in bringing Dorothy’s art to public attention.

Best wishes

Sally

PS: I attended one of your blog writing courses and I still write from time to time. One of the blogs I wrote was about a little sketch Dorothy did. I put the links to all your pieces about Dorothy Rendell in a blog post of my own… https://wewalktogether.uk/2020/06/21/the-memory-whimsy/
