It is heart-warming to see a man not only love and respect his life-long occupation but the mysterious, probably ancient implements of the trade which surround him as well. Thank you, Danny, for spending decades helping to make people beautiful. It is a pity there is not one young person who has stepped forward to be your apprentice.

I hope that when you eventually close your establishment you invite GA to help you find the perfect home for the well-worn weaver's stool, those tools and patterns. Please don't let salvage folks disperse it piecemeal and have its historic meaning lost.

I have a dainty white Coney (rabbit) fur cape which my Aunt gave me back in the early 1970s when I attended my first dinner/dance. It just covered my shoulders but thought I was the bee's knees in it. Aunt was born in 1902 and had worn it herself many times on 'special' occasions. Still wrapped in tissue paper in its box, no doubt it will be ditched when I'm no longer around! I also have one of those flat irons, and a handle turned Singer sewing machine, inset with mother-of-pearl, inherited from my mother. All bring back special memories for me.

My uncle Wolf Corob ran a furrier's workshop at 61 Wilkes St from the late 1910's or early 1920's until he retired in the 1950's and his family lived below the workshop until the blitz. I remember occasionally visiting the workshop in the glazed attic storey but was too young to be taught what they did or how they did it. I do remember the voice-pipe that was used to speak with my aunt in the kitchen two or three floors below and the stretching-boards with their myriad of nail-holes.
