What a wonderful looking place. My father worked in Barking during the 1950s, but I don't recall him ever mentioning this amazing house and grounds, and yet whenever we went down to stay with my grandparents in Gloucestershire, he always stopped en-route at places of interest.
Eastbury Manor will definitely have to be added to my ever growing list of 'places to visit'

You do ferret out and photograph the most amazing old structures, GA. I wonder how many of
your readers follow such a read with many trips to google to broaden their new knowledge.

Here in the States, our selection of old structures is so much more limited, yet significant to us, too. I just learned that a small group of preservation-minded gents with the requisite skills and financial wherewithal has preserved probably the oldest building in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Constructed in 1792 by Revolutionary War Officer George Woods, the handsome stone house in its latest iteration has become The Woods Scottish Pub and serves up the 'best fish sandwich anywhere' and an excellent selection of malts. You all know, of course, that Southwestern PA was settled by English, Scots, Ulster Scots, Welsh and Palatine Germans, yes?
