The sheer fun, optimism, creativity, sense of community, and regard for tradition………this story (and photos) radiate with a commitment to joy. I love the pacing of the story — we are welcomed in by the impish girl holding up the glorious puppets, and are left with a crescendo from the brass band. Bah-bah-bah-ba-BOOM! I want to give up my work for the day, follow the band, and explore every puppet tent. (and with luck, be able to shake the little wooden hands of each figure……….).

At the International Museum of Folk Art in New Mexico, the Alexander Girard Collection contains endless examples of from-the-heart artifacts and relics. During my first visit, I came face-to-face with a glass display case containing 3 vintage Punch & Judy figures. I looked at them, they looked at me. I burst into tears, overcome by the sense of joy these figures had imparted over countless years. Happy tears.

Thankfully you survived and Professor Addrian, who was for a time banned from making you hit Judy, made a puppet of the councillor involved instead and you then hit her !!
