They were places for men to hang out in . Taxi drivers, local shopkeepers, all manner of people. You could pick up some interesting local titbits whilst they whittled away at your hair. I used to frequent Ginos in Church Street Stoke Newington. A great barber with his son as his protege who later took over. He cut what was left of my dads hair as well. A very timely article as tonight on BBC a new drama series begins on a hairdresser in Ridley Road .
