When building or running these models the cares of the world evaporate into nothing. I spend as much time as i can building model boats of all descriptions and then run them at the Lea Valley Park ( Fishers Green to be exact)

As a schoolboy at Parmiters Grammar, in Approach Road, I was aware of the steamboat club’s activities in the nearby park but almost never was able to be there when the club operated. So these photos are very welcome indeed, bringing to life what I might have seen in the 1950’s. So long ago!

Even though I didn’t know a thing about this wonderful endeavor, your post makes me feel I am strolling on a gorgeous day and — whoa! —
have discovered a bunch of people sharing and exploring their shared enthusiasms. I can imagine the splashing, the whirring of the motors, the chatter between the folks, the obvious pride in craftsmanship, etc. And, oh look, there is a comfy bench right at the edge of the water. Great. An ideal day for making discoveries.
