Another Dant masterpiece full of all sorts of interesting stuff. I am familiar with quite a lot of the esoteric things mentioned but there are plenty of intriguing things which I haven't heard of before, and need investigating...

For example - the cutting of the Baddely Cake in Drury Lane, Apple Day at Covent Garden, the Bubble Sermon at St Brides (the mind boggles!), and the Swearing on the Highgate Horns - is that a genuinely old pagan tradition or one invented by the Victorians?

And what is the Sig Favales bequest? And two to do with the Tower of London - what is the connection with St Valentine, and what are the lions that are washed there? And why??

All fascinating stuff, and a reminder of the rich and eccentric history of London.

Thank you Adam, and GA for sharing.

And happy new year of course! xx
