I first visited almost 40 years ago and loved it. There was even a poison garden there, with many interesting herbs and plants – of course, that is long gone! It was quite a ‘wild and woolly’ garden back then. It’s been several years since I’ve been able to get back but it’s been restored so much now, which is beautiful, though I still miss the wildness! Wish I had some photos of it way back then.
Thanks for writing about it – so few people seem to even realise it’s there and it’s such a treasure 🙂

Lovely place. Reading this made me realise how much companion planting my gardening mad grandparents (both born 1890s) actually did, to deter pests and lure the beneficial insects that prey on them. It makes for a glorious, colourful garden, as we see here.

Marvelous story about someone who discovered her life’s work in childhood. I so wish I could visit the garden. The planting combinations create unique landscapes. Thank you for this delightful interview and accompanying photos.
