With the shut downs and lack of tourism, now and likely to extend into the future, building a hotel of any kind isn’t a great investment right now. Could be they will be much more open to unloading this at “market” value sooner rather than later when property values drop even more. They also might need the revenue.

So keep an eye on the markets and the developer’s assets and it’s possible they might be open to an offer even before this hearing.

I feel very strongly that the Whitechapel Bell Foundry is not only worth saving as a very important part of the heritage of the East End, but that it could also become a potent symbol in the fight back against the greed of the developers who have been recklessly destroying our local communities in their pursuit of profit.

Or to put it another way – Make Bells, not Hotels!
