About 5 years ago I found a YouTube channel called Know Where You Walk, there was a vlog called Spitalfields Nippers and Adelaide Springett came up, what an interesting life Adelaide had, I asked my friend Abbey to name her daughter Adelaide, Abbey thought the name was cute but she called her daughter Elina instead, I wish I could go back in time and rescue Adelaide and bring her aged 7, to our time

Thank you for these photos. My grandfather was also a poor kid from East London (Whitechapel, eldest son of Russian Jewish eimgrees) near the turn of the century. He worked on a ship at age 15 to arriver in Canada, eventually ended up in California and becoming a naturalized US citizen as did his youngest brother Sam. All 3 of my granduncles and their families were in the bombing raids of the WWII blitzkrieg - the youngest brother, my uncle Sam, eventually also moved to the US and lived near his eldest brother and my family in Los Angeles.
Appreciations for sharing these images of Mr. Warner & for your creating the book.
I write because In a poetry group exercise last week, Mr. Warner's image of the unnamed girl with the pigeon was shared in a writing prompt among sev. b/w historic images in various countries from various sources. I chose the Spitalfields girl as my forebears were traced by my father back to immigration from Spitalsfield [this is how his records show it] to USA landing in South Carolina & thence. north in USA to New Jersey in the 1700s. His family was of French Huguenot descent, moving from France to continue working in the tapestry industry in Spitalfields.
Cheers.

Walter Seabrook was my half sister's grandfather. My mother married Walters son Walter and had my half sister Dora. Dora was born in 1942 but Walter junior had bad experiences in WW11 and was hospitalised until his death in 1953. My sister found out about the picture of her grandfather when my other sister saw a TV programme about the pictures. She contacted the TV company and was given the details of Horace Warner's granddaughter who.organised the exhibition. My sister was invited as a VIP guest to the exhibition. Sadly my sister died in 2020 but by chance I was recently reminded of the Sputalfields Nippers and looked them up again

She was my mothers aunt, (fathers side). I think the best way to give you the story of her life, what's known of it, is to refer you to the website 'Rootschat'. It's a free site to help people researching their family history. Just register and enter Adelaide Springett into the search window. It traces the story of how she became known and the efforts to trace her life. It contains much speculation and theorising but if you look at the contributor Ionicus - that's me, you can read the few records that shed light on her early life. To attempt to write it up here would not be possible in the space available.
Sad to say, she knew much grief in her long life. Her mother lost 3 children, 2 at birth and a 3 year old, all inside three months. Mother died of alcoholism aged 47, father vanished, (no record of him dying), her brother died aged 38, her 'husband' committed suicide aged 69. Only her brothers daughter survived,(my Mum). Her early life was spent in service and she lived as a 'common law' wife from about 40 onwards. Dying at age 96 in a nursing home and I never knew she existed at the time.

Another here who'd like to know more about Adelaide - her picture made me well up (which admittedly doesn't take much at the moment, but still...I'd like to feel she had some happiness in her life).
