Rest in peace, Philip.

Livia and I are heartbroken at your passing. You ended up being a dear dear friend to me, and my little girl adored you.

We're both inconsolably sad just now, but in the months and years to come we'll smile and laugh when thinking about you.

You sold us cloth, but the gift of love and affection you gave us was free.

What a gift to give!

Great story and a wonderful collection of photos.

I use a lot of fabrics in my work and so I will definitely go to Crescent Trading next time I'm in the area - although unfortunately that is usually on a Saturday!

Thank you, GA, for presenting the heroes. The industrious (well-dressed!) rag man, the roaming photographer, the hard-working factory workers at their holiday parties, the intrepid artist at
her easel, the diligent seamstresses, the smiling mechanics with their grimy jumpsuits, the collectors of strange and wonderful things, the map-maker, the mudlarks, the cooks,
the immigrants, the preservationists, the rogues, the angels.

Thank you for this daily offering of optimism. And, oh boy, we need it now.
Onward and upward.
