Spoke to Manny on Friday July 2024. He’s not very at all well but still as sharp as nails and remembers me. He’s a wonder man and has always offered to help anyone that needs it. As a young designer I went to see him at Hartnell in Burton Street hoping to get a job. Manny showed me around the rooms were the seamstress its was amazing and full of mirrors everywhere. It was very luxurious in there and it was a shame that the brand didn’t make a comeback. Manny write me a letter of encouragement on Hartnell headed paper and his business card which I still have and will always treasure. Wishing him a speedy recovery and love

A heartwarming story. Believe it or not, there are some people that refuse to admit their East End roots out of a fear of being discovered as born as working class. My sister and I often have a laugh, just between us, at those people whom we meet who we have very known as childhood playmates, who strenuously deny ever having come from East End origins. Their accents are a giveaway so it's quite sad but at the same time just a little bit funny really.
Thank you, Manny and the Gentle Author for telling us your story. Where else would we get these wonderful personal histories told with honesty and good humour?

His comment -- "it's a part of who I am" -- says it all.
We're the lucky ones, to meet Manny and discover his insights and stories.
