Lovely evocation of times gone. Although I am sure there is much that would “upset” the modern viewer, the treatment of the oxen at the market is mentioned, the child labour and so on, it would be fascinating to go back in time and see some of the trades beautifully portrayed in these plates. Thanks for sharing them

GA, what a great find these lively prints are. No doubt, the colorful, pristine outfits of most of these hawkers suggest some artistic license on the part of Mr. Craig. Love the recognizable, architectural backdrops.

Interesting – “the vibrancy of their pristine colours suggests they have never been exposed to daylight in two centuries.”

The colours are so vibrant! And the alignment of inks in the printing process wonderful–no blurring of colour as is usually seen.

G.A., you have often shown us criers but I think these are the best. And I’ve learned even more about these folks. The nursing mother, the match boy, even the ‘squirrel-powered’ show, touch the heart.
