It is good to see Shajeda stand up for her rights and the rights of other women. I think it is poetic that this happens in an area that was central to the rise and fight for women’s rights that has had implications across the whole world. So much of that history started in this relatively small but important area.

Shajeda makes me think of the many Asian women in my GCSE English classes over the years. Working hard to gain qualifications they missed out on. Single, divorced, married, they are carving, and have carve, futures for themselves. These women, as well as the refugees – like Slyvain from The Congo – and all the local men and women who did not get enough qualifications at school, for all kinds of reasons, have made me feel blessed in my career.
For all nonsense we are currently experiencing in this country, there are so many stories of people overcoming the odds. We must not despair.

Thank you for once again sharing Shajeda’s story and helping me appreciate my own.
