I finally have time to enjoy reading your stories (I no longer work full time). I discovered your site from a purchase of your book Spitalfields Life while on our annual visit to the UK. My husband is from Suffolk and we also have friends in London. I enjoy reading about the local people and history. We live in Dallas, TX now and plan to move next year permanently to the UK. It will be nice to discover some of the places you write about in person soon. Lovely, well written blog. Thank you

Brilliant. Good luck to Dave. It is So cheering to hear of people of his ilk. I wish i had learnt skills like that. How satisfying to know you are one of a tiny few who are able to make a lasting impression. Of London. Of England.

Greetings from Boston,

GA, thank you for sharing the story of Dave Thompson, Joiner, and the restoration work he has done over the years to retain the charms of Spitalfields. No doubt his closeness to his land in Kent (not to forget his apples ‘n eggs) is a rejuvenating force in his life.

“His conscientious labour over all these years has comprised the culmination of his life’s work and it honours those craftsmen whose work he has furthered.” Again, well said.

Beautiful job on those doors. ! Its amazing the things that are dumped in skips. In the early 90's whilst I was working as an officer for our local library service I had a phone call from a resident informing me that a house was being renovated and there were important historical items in the skip. I went to investigate and indeed there were items that originated from the Camden Town Group of artists and fortunately they were saved for posterity and our local history society were called in .I can recall two other occasions where skips were filled with valuable historical items . Never pass a skip from an old house without taking a quick look inside .
