My Mother in the 1950s went every week to the Clapton Beauuty Parlour
While waiting for her I spent time looking at books in Jarvis the bookstore When was ready
We then went into Williams for tea which was I think next door

I remember my grandmother Lily Raymond going to this salon in the 1950s. I was very small and used to sit and wait for her. All the ladies would be talking and I used to love listening to all the banter. My grandmother was born in 1896 and always looked very glamourous. Lovely memories.

Thanks for this. My brother Paul Loften forwarded it to me! How I remember Clapton Beauty Parlour in Chatsworth Road! So nice to know the business continues today. Although I did actually go to a hairdresser’s called Edwards also in Chatsworth Road. Then, when we moved to Cazenove Road, went to Martins in Clapton. What a fantastic team of hair stylists they all were! Thanks girls! Those were the days, what memories!

We lived in Millfiields road on the Nye Bevan Estate in the early 60’s. No doubt my mum and sister were clients then . and I must have passed the shop in Chatsworth Road a thousand times on my way to get the bus to school . However I can’t say that I remember the shop as I was probably more interested in playing football, when I got home from school on Millfields by the old power station. There was around 20 of us that would play every night . There used to be a big open air market in Chatsworth Road I dont know if its still there but they had a really good music stall . How wonderful that Marcia’s business has continued for all those years

How wonderful Marcia to hear your family story, and to hear how you have continued the family business. I am certain that my maternal grandparents Julius and Tanya Slonims would have been beautified by your parents. They lived in Clapton in the 1930s and Julius helped found the synagogue there.

This was round the corner from where my family lived.
My Nan knew Marcia’s parents and she and my Mum occasionally went there. Good to see the place is still going strong.
