A few years before I moved from Oxford to East London in 1987, a friend moved to a basement flat on Kennington Road. Her basement flat was a few doors up from the one in which the young Chaplin lived, though I am not sure the blue plaque was up then. Whatever local knowledge that this was where he started out. Really peaked my interest that he also frequented Hackney/Whitechapel in that era.
