I well remember Jackie Brafman in Tooting Market. I’m 82 now and as a child, mum used to take me down to Tooting I I loved his wonderful sales technique and patter. And if I remember correctly it wasn’t just ladies dresses he used to sell, but he also sold sets of crockery like plates which his assistant used to throw up a pile of plates to him. As a small child I was amazed that none of them got broken. One of life’s characters.

The Peter (Nevard) that told George about the job with Jackie Brafman is my Dad who also worked for Jack for many years driving him around and also working up the lane. We would often travel up on a sunday to meet my Dad.

Hi I worked for Jackie Brahman in both Tooting & Petticoat Lane some 40 odd years ago . It was lovely to find this online and bought back some very good memories.

I loved this article and so did my neighbour Eve (Eva) who worked at Brafmans and you went to her wedding. Are gas fond memories of this time. She is now 81. She would like to say hello.

I am 83 now but I seem to remember a branch(?) of Jackie Brafman’s in one of the Tootimg markets in the 50’s, 60’s.Is this correct? Also I believe the stall and JB appeared in a film but I have no idea of its title.

A wonderful reminiscence. And wasn’t Jackie Brafman the inspiration for the market trader Madam Rita in A Kid For Two Farthings (played by Sid Tafler in the film). I seem to remember that glorious Yiddisher Dior line in the film.

Great memories. George really brought Mr Brafman to life. I remember Mark One. There was one in Bolton.
