I remember Barbara from Berger Primary school, teaching dance I think. Wish I could find a site like this for The Angel, I’m still there.

I find Spitalfields Life a continous source of fascinating, poignant, informative, and entertaining stories straight out of life. I am frankly never disappointed, but I will still have to say that this story touched me that bit extra, even to be a Spitalfields Life story!

So full of anecdotes and memories, coming very much alive as one reads.

I printed it out – as I always do – and read it when having breakfast today. A wonderful way to begin the day.

Why did they change the name of Redmans Road school to Redlands and why? It was my infant school up until the age of 7 in 1959, and was still called Redmans Road when my younger siblings attended up until 1963 when we moved from Stepney Way to Buckhurst Hill and I started at CFGS. My parents moved into Armsby House in 1953 and they were luxury flats then with central heating and a fridge!

I remember you. We sang in the choir at about the same time I believe. I still live not a stone’s throw from Columbia Road. It’s changed, but still a great place to live.

hi barbara, i knew you in the early 80s when we lived round the corner in marlborough avenue. good to see you survived it all!!!

i went to central foundation boys in cowper street in the 60s. I then did a year as the last unqualified teacher in ilea – at st lukes! margaret routledge was the head then, i went off to swansea college of education, though thankfully didn’t teach.

i’ve got a couple of sets of photos of broadway market on spitalfields life, one from 1982 when it was beautiful and semi derelict. hoping to publish these as a book this year.

Barbara and her mum were good neighbours of mine as I live in Brownlow Road since 1980.

I went to her school production of Alice in Wonderland at Randall Cremer and it was wonderful.
