Greetings from Boston,

GA, that is a most impressive statue of John Stow, quite a substantial presence.

April makes a good suggestion above about engaging youngsters in ancient history by appealing to their sense of the macabre. The Museum of London Docklands appears to be doing just that in opening a series of Roman Dead Events in May. It will feature “ancient grave goods and objects, including an extremely rare sarcophagus to explore rituals and beliefs in Roman London.”

All more than interesting - couldn’t much of this information make school history classes about the Romans somewhat more fascinating if only because children would consider some of the content macabre - but the seed of interest might be sown!
