You may not understand, but when I see your photos of these places, I can imagine the smell of history in the buildings. It’s hard to explain…but I wish I could someday visit .

Very many thanks for the excellent text and images.

I’ve seen the outside, but, as yet, not the inside, though I feel I know many of the congregation from my work on the church registers, and the many other local records, in order to build a picture of the sugar refining industry and its workers for my website ‘Sugar Refiners & Sugarbakers’.

The only disappointment for me is that my sugarbaker ancestor did not attend the church, and so the excellent records available for many of his German friends, employers and employees are not to be found for him … one day I may find his birthplace.

I have some documents. But no photos and I’ve never been
There. Now due to health I cannot travel.

This was one of the few City churches I didn’t visit during my years in London, and your post makes my regret a little sharper. A lovely, austere interior.
