The comment above about the homeless and communal parties is perhaps closer to the mark than might be supposed. Drapers Hall is let out for events most days of the year and the income raised helps the Drapers give some £2m a year to charitable causes including prisoner education and support and support to homeless people. What a glorious building .I have heard of The Drapers Hall but to my sorrow ,did not locate it’s location when I lived in London .I have been in Australia 27 years & no longer are able to travel .Your Spitalfieldslife articles are a great pleasure to me .Many thanks for the effort & time taken to write these .

I used to visit the Hall in my London years and loved it, but was always enormously amused that each successive generation of drapers had obviously concluded that their predecessors’ ambitions for the place hadn’t been quite bling’y enough.

Amazing looking place. Should be converted into flats for the homeless and families in London being evicted by greedy private landlords. Great courtyard for communal summer picnics/b.b.q’s.

Great that a small piece of Cromwell’s garden remains in a city destroyed by fire, bombs and endless property development. I imagine he would be pleased.
