I have just visited the Nunnery Gallery's exhibition In The Footsteps of the East London Group, and have become smitten by the work of the Steggles brothers. After several laps of the gallery I realised that the palette and texture of a number of Walter's paintings reminded me of something. And then it clicked, so I looked up the painting in question on my phone and held it next to Bow Bridge, and was amazed at how similar the palette was, and the effect created. That painting was Paris Street: Rainy Day (1877) byGustave Caillebotte. Seeing the paintings today was such a joy to see the work of men and women who had to paint, to express the world that they knew. I'm still glowing, and have the catalogue and my photos to keep the memory of these paintings above for me.

Hello, I inherited a small oil painting of a street corner by Harold Steggles. It belonged to my father b.1906. I would love to identify the street and learn more about the artists. It is now in our son’s house in Mile End and we hope it depicts East London.

In the 21 July '17 edition of the Islington Tribune there is an illustrated page short review of the work of Phyllis Bray (excellently profiled by the Gentle Author at greater length on 24 April 2013), another member of the East London Group of artists. It is prompted by the publication of "Titania and Oberon," illustrated by Phyllis Bray, with a foreword by David Buckman, described as 'an art historian who is an expert in the lives and times of the East London Group.' Pavilion Children's Books, £12.99.
