Superb article, which I hope makes an unstoppable case for rejecting the present proposals. I read Ruth Richardson’s book with fascination and have visited the site a few times so far. As you say the potential for appropriate development is enormous, especially with the Nightingale angle – of which I was unaware.
Fingers crossed, where can I find the outcome?

Future needs past/origin. How will our grandchildren know their identity when cultural heritages are replaced by event locations? Which by the way have no aura and teaching like historic places and monuments, which are unique through their history. Restauration would preserve an important place of World Culture.

As one of lovers of British history, I do hope that the Workhouse and the Nightingale Pavilions would be refurbished as housing for local people and future generation. It is no doubt that this historic site deserves preservation.

It seems strange to know not to preserve such an impressive historical building.
Wow, it’s been dowelled by Dickens and Nightingale!
We are sure conservation of this would attract more Japanese, Korean and Chinese visitors.

These old historical buildings conjure up the past and teach us a lot of things.
They remind us of the great works by Dickens and Nightingale. If they are replaced with modern buildings, London will lost an important part of its attraction. Hope to preserve this historical site.

I’m ashamed to say that I was unaware of the marvellous work Florence Nightingale did after the war. She certainly needs more recognition and what better way than to preserve these beautiful, solid buildings. Charles Dickens seems to pop up everywhere, is there anywhere in London that he didn’t live?!!!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Such a beautiful and sturdy building which can still serve well in the year 2017 onwards and should be put to good use for the people of London. I will be adding my name and support to keep this well constructed sight where it belongs and it should have plaques to state its historic past and connections. This building came to my attention a few years ago when I was reading something Charles Dickens had written and I am horrified for its future. Some just do not know what they have until they destroy it. There is so much possibility here and the people want it. Preservation not Bulldozing

A very persuasive case for retaining these fine and historically significant buildings which are such an important element on the fabric of of this part of London. They are just the sort of buildings that deserve to be re-used and revitalised. I’ll enter an objection and hope you succeed.

Additional brilliant informative history from Ruth Richardson making a persuasive case for a sensitive conversion of this site preserving a key part of our heritage. If this site is destroyed, future generations will rightfully be aghast that in 2017 their ancestors wantonly sacrificed one of the few remaining legacies of London’s rich health care history.
