Deborah, I had a black and white cat called Midge who also ran sideways but his reason was a pin in his left leg. I found him when I was 11 years old as a kitten (I was on a scouting trip) by the side of a motorway with no houses for miles. He lived until I was 28 so he was a big part of my younger life and I still miss the little terror over 20 years later.

Lovely story, which reminds me of my old white farm cat midge, who lived to the age of about six or seven I think, but was unfortunately run over when he was hit by a fast car one morning in the village that my family had moved to from Salisbury! He was so friendly that he seemed more like a dog than a cat and ran sideways due to a gammy hip. Long live all cats with fierce characters is what I say. Let Blackie be a lesson to them all.
