Henry Silk's work is similar to Alfred Wallis at the Tate St Ives, Cornwall. I like these primitive paintings of course they are very collectable. I would have liked to have seen the Zeppelin painting which went into a wartime officers hands for only a shilling. There must be more WW1 paintings in circulation somewhere. Henry's room doesn't have lots of clutter he only has the 'tools' of his trade plus his pipes, who needs more. PS I would like say there are other London artists with work of similar quality. Lets see more of their work in the Galleries please. Hope the London exhibition goes well in Nov.
Good Early Morning from USA, This article was quite good in offering an insight into the weaving of fruit baskets, which were very important in 1891-1905 in SW Michigan USA to fruit farmers. I have my grandmother's fruit basket which was used on her father's small fruit farm in New Troy MI USA. There is a photograph of my grandmother at a very young age holding the basket. The basket is now mine. Strange wouldn't it be if the maker of this old fruit basket has received training from an English basket weaver or apprentice? The basket might also have come from 1870 Swedish were my grandmother lived as a young girl. We do not possess any photos of the basket before 1899. The family came from Stockholm Sweden 1870 where great grandmother's father was a tailor for the King (sure he was one of many tailors). Thanks for this writing and sharing. atk

You can't help but think of Van Gogh when you look at 'The Bedroom'. I love the muted colours of all of these works. As an aside, the view from Rounton Road looks a bit grim but I have a close friend who is such a railway nut that he would more than likely have thought that living there would have been heaven...
