Their foodstuffs can be much fresher because they buy small with a quick turnover, their clothes are also very competitive. I notice the big four have moved into the high street also with online trading with a supporting delivery service. I say; There is room for both, Supermarkets have the advantage of the one stop weekly family shop with good parking. In Victorian times there was a corner shop on every street people were not mobile then. By the 1960s many shops were sold off and re-converted back to houses some still show the scars. To sum up the East End traders and others are dedicated to the community they are loyal to their customers they sell well below Supermarket prices because their overheads are lower, many trade in all winds and weather some from shops, lockups, stalls and handcarts. Well done independent traders please keep going ‘your community’ needs you. John
