Both of the Twins were Violent and sociopaths, Ronnie suffered from Paranoid delusions and was technically a homicidal maniac at various points in his life, Reggie was the saner of the two but was invariably linked with his twin through a shared Psychology and whilst Reggie may well have never turned out to be a murderer without Ronnie and his influence, its certainly true that both were very violent criminals and compared to the likes of Charlie Richardson and especially Freddie Foreman were only in it for the violence rather than the money.
Its also worth Noting that Lenny Hamilton likes to put it around that they Murdered far more people than they were convicted of (11 according to lennies recent book) but I find that hard to believe and its also worth noting that despite Reggie being married he was a homosexual just the same as Ronnie. There are lots of myths around these two but most of these myths were started by the twins themselves.

There’s nothing romantic or heroic about the Krays. They were stupid, dangerous murderers. All the myths about them being good boys who loved their Mum and took care of old people, and all the rest of that rubbish, is exactly that – rubbish. Running protection rackets involved threats of violence which were frequently carried out, even on small shopkeepers. Ronnie was probably insane and certainly a psychopath who had a nasty penchant for young boys and violent torture. Reggie was just a simpleton. Some heroes. It’s a pity that a few famous people sought them out and gave them a bit of the spotlight which lit up their gruesome faces but hid their gruesome deeds in the shadows. My East End didn’t need these two nutcases to look after us, we looked after ourselves without any help from them. Let the myths be buried.
