Another brilliant photographer. I especially loved his quote "I did not know why I wanted it, except I wanted to capture everything and take the memories back with me." Isn't that the essence of why one does any form of art. 'When this you see, remember me.'

Keith Horton and John Claridge .... two guys looking just far too kool for skool!

Look forward to attending the book launch and exhibition. I have to hold my hand up and admit that I have had a sneak preview of Spitalfields Life's latest publication 'East End' by John Claridge and it is a really beautiful book. Yet another publication for The Gentle Author to be proud of.

I think I have a lot in common with Mr Claridge, I have no idea exactly where he lived in Plaistow but I spent the first 50 year's of my life during a similar period in time living on Green St in Upton Park so we must have been almost neighbours ! ! Laying in bed listening to the horns of the ships in the docks definitely strikes a chord with me I use to love that, South West Ham tech was a sworn enemy of everyone at my school Berk Secondary Modern in Plaistow, but getting back to the point in question, having recently been privileged enough to have had a sneak (unofficial) preview of this book I can enthusiastically recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the East End of yesteryear, its a sizeable book and full of wonderfully atmospheric and nostalgic photo's that will invoke warm memories for those who remember and an invaluable insite into a lost world for those who were not part of it but still have an interest in the East End of the past, I cant wait to get mine, Good Luck with the launch.
