Sharing a surname with John Lovekyn, albeit now spelt Lovekin, a prominent fishmonger and Lord Mayor of London on four occasions in the 14th century I am of the understanding that his London mansion stood on the site of the current Fishmongers Hall. Upon his death in August 1368 the property passed to William Walworth his apprentice and successor and after him to Henry Preston, another fishmonger who left the property to the Fishmongers Guild to use as their hall.
Could I ask, if there are there any remains of the original buiding still existing or more important to my current investigations any records containing details of the foresaid John Lovekyn that occur in your achives.
The photographs display a most magnificant building that I would dearly love to see in person if at all possible.

I worked in Adelaide House for 25 years. It’s directly opposite Fishmongers Hall. The last few years I worked there I was working evenings. If there was a function at the hall I could see directly into the main reception area. I would loved to have looked around there so these picture show me what I was missing. If you look at Adelaide House and Fishmongers Hall the style of the buildings are very similar except Adelaide House is a few floors higher.

Well done on your beautiful pictures of the hall !
Donald I am afraid you have confused some of your stories. The dagger at FH was allegedly used by William Walworth to stab Wat Tyler during the Peasants Revolt 1381. He was Lord Mayor at the time and a prominent figure of the fishmongers company .
Juliet -John Leman is portrayed in a fabulous pageant scroll dating from 1616 , you are correct , he too is a famous Fishmonger Mayor !
There is some debate as to whether the Funeral Pall was created by Nuns. The embroidery was of such high quality it is believed it was produced by professional embroiderers and the detail on the faces so exquisite - the work of one man.
The photographs of the paintings are wonderful too !
