I grew up in post-WWII Roman Road. Everything in this article left me a wonderful inheritance, a hard but enjoyable childhood, a balanced schooling for later life, and a bookfull of wonderful memories from an army of mostly wonderful people who lived at that time in Bow. Thank you E3.

Interesting stuff but not new.Working class women’s involvement in suffrage feminism has been researched for decades. Rosemary Taylor’s 1993 book In Letters of Gold about the ELFS was a good introduction. I realise new generations need new histories but the work of historians of an earlier period often paved the way for recognition in the present and should not be ignored.
