Thank you so much for these wonderful photos, I have been in photography and taught adults all my life. I find what ever your subject matter is you will have an amazing profession or hobby for life. I still have classes ( voluntary ) and I’m 75 next week. The old photos of London I particularly like as they show just how society lived. We have been fortunate to be able to come over to the UK many times ( my family came from Cornwall) With Covid I have been restricted in what I can do , but I love restoring old photos and with photoshop it had kept me amused.
Keep up the good work and we love your shows here in Australia . Keep safe and cheers Pam Firth

I am an East Ender and born and bred in Bethnal Green. But I love these many pictures of old Spitalfields. Myself and my family lived and worked around Spitalfields, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green etc many years ago. The 1960 and 1970s were tough times for all back then but we muddled through life then. I had Irish and German ancestors who lived in East London. My dads mums Irish family lived in Little Pearl Street, Pelham Street, etc. They were Irish Catholics and went to St Ann's RC Church in Underwood Street (now Underwood Road) - that's still standing. But Little Pearl Street is now Jerome Street, but it's layout hasn't changed, just the cramped houses have long gone. My mum's father's family worked for furriers around Folgate Street, Fluer de Lisle Street, etc, but i often wonder what happened to the furrier Sid Keye. When i was growing up in the sixties and seventies i used to visit my mum at work on her sewing machine in the old buildings then.

Dan Cruickshank has done a wonderful job in drawing attention to this, fast disappearing, part of London. "Authentic London". An area of London where many immigrants came to ply their trades, with success, before moving onwards and upwards when, toward the later part of the 19th century the area declined badly. It was then that my great uncle worked for many years as a Magistrate at the Worship Street and Thames Police Court. Here he was able to help so many of the poor and destitute of Spitalfields and surrounding areas. He became known as "The Poor Man's Magistrate". That which has not been demolished is Authentic London of which too much has already been brutaly destroyed. Enough destruction has already been carried out. Lets retain just a small part of domestic history.
