My Grandfather used to repair clocks and watches and used to visit Shoots for supplies… I think Maurice served me once… I’d been given some money for my 18th birthday and wanted to buy a watch with it… Grandpa said he knew just the place… I had £50 (1983)… I looked at lots.. I saw a real beauty and, bizarrely, it was £50!!…Once outside, I asked Grandpa if I chosen well… He laughed his head off…. There wasn’t one there worth less than£200…It helps if you know old man Shoot, apparently.
