I have recently discovered a picture of my great uncle Thomas Neale who is one of the children in these photos. But he lived in the village if Adpenden in Hertfordshire and wasn't in Spitalfields at this time. So I don't know why he's featured. Does anyone know why children who didn't live there are included?

I love looking at pics of the East End of this era. my Great Grand parents had connections everywhere there. My Great grandmother was Lillian Maud Defee and the Defees were of Huguenot decent. My GG grandfather, Joseph Benson Bunting, son of the Rev. Jabez Bunting ,married Charlotte Cazeley ,Another Huguenot Family from the west end and through them i am related to lots of different old time east end Families, Bonds, Hazels, Paines and so so on, all Huguenot names. The Buntings, being methodist were interest in Social reform with many of my relatives, especially the women being known as "social activists" at time when such things were considered a bit unseemly. It is interesting to note that Huguenot were refugees ( there presence coined the name) and bought with them many skills such as silk weavers, makers of fine shoes and watch and clock making. All of which helped Britains economy ,then in a cruel twist, after over 100 years of prosperity imports of silk from China saw the east ends decline begin .
