I was drinking in The Vic pub almost next door before a Spurs home match after the riots had gone, and he was open, so I went in to support Aaron and he cut my hair with those famous scissors of his. I must have been in there 45 mins, as he wasn't too steady on his feet, but he did a great job, plus his stories were magnificent and he even knew my late aunt and uncle who lived close by in the 1970s. Most people don't live to be that age, and to see him still working was remarkable. A great character.

I have known Aaron (Alf as I have always known him) all my life. I was shocked to find out about his passing. I had a great respect for him. He and my father were great friends. I wish a member of his remaining family would contact me.

I met Aaran at your last book launch. He came with his nephew Eddie who I know. What a character he was lovely. I have a great photograph of Aaran with me. I nicked one of his chips which the landlady of the pub had bought him at the book launch. He also signed the page he features in The London Album. I'll treasure both forever.

Such a moving story and rich life. I could comment on so much of it, but the irony of Aaron being asked to join the police didn't escape me.
