My grandfather was born in 1900 at 42 Bacon Street; his father, Isaac Teff, is listed on the birth certificate as a cabinet maker so may well have had one of the workshops that Doris refers to. As with Doris’s father, I expect that his surname was an approximation recorded by an official.
