This has brought back some wonderful memories for me. I remember so many of the people and places mentioned. I was a good friend of Neville's brother, Dougie.
Wonderful to read this - I live in Australia and doing my family tree - Polish ancestors of mine lived in the area in the early 1900s. My great great grandfather was recorded as living at 13 Elder St Spitalfields in the 1911 census - his name was Nyman Garfinkel (a tailor ?also known as Herman, Newman or Nachman Garfinkel or Garfield)- married to Sarah, with children Milly, Jack and Harry at that time. Thought you may have a photo of the street perhaps showing number 13, or may have recollections of that property from your childhood? Anyway, just wanted to pass on that it is wonderful to hear about the neighbourhood of the area in your recollections. Thanks, Kathryn

I find this so interesting and I love the history of old London, up to a few years ago I worked as a paediatric nurse in a number of the large hospitals, while training and working in London, I explored and visited many places, and even now living in East-Sussex, I still visit.

Many Thanks

Neville's story about The Brady Boys Club brought back memories of the many happy hours that I spent there on Durward St. it was only recently that I learned that Durward Street (under a different name) was the location of one of the "Jack the Ripper" murders.
I spent many a weekend at Skeet House (which was the Dower House of Lullingstone Castle). As we were quite poor, (my father had recently passed away), they let me stay there at 1/2 price.
Yogi Mayer the club leader, was a German refugee. He was a fine fellow whom I got to know quite well during the 3 summer camps that I attended on the Isle of Wite and other places. He died recently in his late nineties.
I made friends there with several guys that I am still pals with 65 years later. We now communicate via Skype as i am now on the other side of the Pond.
