My great grandfather (Charles Kemp) worked as a cabinet maker in 1915 at number 17 Roan Horse Yard. A number of his sons including my grandfather worked for him. I would love to get a print of the Roan Horse Painting - does anybody know where the original is housed?

i came across Albert Turpin whilst researching my time working with my father at Roan Horse Yard. His painting struck me like a thunderbolt! I never thought I would see the old building again anywhere in any shape or form but his painting has captured it beautifully. I grew up in an orphanage and didn't know my father till I was 16 and had to leave the home. The two years in the 60's that I worked in his carpenters shop at the yard and drank in his pub in Fulham were a precious time. A time this painting brings back to me every time I see it.
My dads name was Albert and my name is Edward. Thanks Albert Edward Turpin for painting an old but not forgotten location in the East End of London that's helped me in 2015!
Who knew!

I teach in Bethnal Green at John Scurr Primary school.
I was researching a paper for an MA course and found a great quote
from Albert Turpin:

“Why give a man a fifteen-stone body, the temper of the story-type Irish navy with the face of a fighting pug, then implant a tiny seed of melancholy, a tiny seed but enough to bring tears when an old piece of music is played or a poem read.”

Thank you for this excellent post David.
