My father was a police officer who’s beat in the 60’s was brick lane amongst others. When we used to visit my nan of a weekend who lived the other side of London dad would always stop off at Harry’s to get sweets etc. And as a child of 5 or 6 Harry would let me go behind the counter and weigh out the sweets. A memory I have to this day. What a gentleman he was and he’s embedded in my mind even after 50 odd yrs have passed. I have the pleasure of meeting Marrionnon a couple of occassions as well. Happy happy memories

I lived in Great Eastern Buildings from 59 to 61-62 i’m not sure but my mother may have lived above the shop for a short while, she was a single mother from Ireland having been kicked out out by her family and came to east london to protect me from forced adoption in the mothers homes in Dublin. I’d love to know if I am correct.

Harry was the heart of Quaker street and Brick Lane. A very rare and special type of shopkeeper, we will not see his like again. Greatly respected and deserving of all his accolades. Thanks for your kindness and generosity Harry.
