Fascinating old pictures. Finnigans building must have been cutting edge design in 1910. It now hosts Louis Vuitton. Peter Robinson closed in recent times and there's a nice image online of the restaurant interior. Much thanks.

The half-moon is on Holywell St. not Wych St. It marked a shop by a narrow passage stretching south to the Strand called Half Moon Passage; formerly less salubriously known as Pissing Alley.
It had long outlasted the businesses flitting beneath its stern gaze.

The moon was preserved when the area was redeveloped into the Aldwych and I saw it recently it at the Dickens bi-centenary exhibition in the Museum of London 2011-12.
It marked an alleyway

There is a page dedicated this half-moon, Holywell street and it's surrounds on this Partleton family tree page: - http://partleton.co.uk/James1837in1861c.html
