You&#039;d enjoy reading Mr Foote&#039;s Other Leg, a biography of Garrick&#039;s friend and rival Samuel Foote, but also a wonderful account of the Georgian London stage. The sections on how Garrick, Macklin, Foote and co got around the Lord Chamberlain&#039;s restrictions (partly evinced in the wording of the show bill you posted above) are particularly fascinating. It&#039;s out next week, but I&#039;ve read an advance copy:
