I would like to know as to whether you have any information regarding my Family called Gome. Christopher William Gome was a Butcher in 1760-1800 in the old Clare Market and moved to Bermondsey 1800-1802 and the Butchers Row in the Whitechapel area between 1802-1812 when he emigrated to the USA where he died in 1850.
His son my third great grandfather James Henry Gome worked in whitechapel until 1822 when he went to Gillingham Kent and emigrated to South Australia in June 1848 on the "Poctiers" settling in Adelaide SA. I believe that they came over to England from 1560-1620 from Holland to escape the wrath of the Duke of Alva in the Netherlands they were non conformist in religion.

Hi just found this site, wonder if anyone remembers the Perkins family from Islington, My Grandmother was Ethel, Grandfather Frank, with sons Eric, Raymond and Thomas, they I believe lived in Islington and my Grandfather used to play piano in the pub, which one I don't know but would guess around late 1920's/30's or even later, my father Eric was born in 1923 but his brothers did'nt come along until 1933 & 1935, would love to know more about them, my father married a scottish lady after ww11 so began a new life in Edinburgh, the first time I met my cockney family was in 1965 but got the impression that they were not interested in our family, why I don't know but never met them again, would really love to know more if anyone can help. Regards Evelyn

In 1963/4 I remember taking greyhounds to an auction in a huge hall in Islington that had ramps that led to stables on 1/2 story's , I was told that heavy horses used to be sold and stabled there and that is was all due to be closed down, now I'm in my 70s and I would dearly like to know a little more about this, I remember being impressed with the building even at a young age, I'm looking forward to a positive response so thank you in advance....
