art therapy works wonders for those for whom the talking cure does not serve -- whether because they can't talk or there are cultural taboos against it or the therapist doesn't speak one's language or one is a child with secrets. lately due to the increased interest in knitting and making among the under 40s, i've been snooping around the interwebs looking at therapeutic knitting.
there's a whole thread on it for brain injuries, fantastic.

Miriam is doing a really great job! Had the pleasure of visiting Headway a few years ago while on vacation. The atmosphere was so warm and inviting and everyone seemed comfortable. Got to see some of the lovely art work produced at centre and the garden. Such an important and empowering service. Miriam is full of passion and truly an inspiration.

We know Miriam quite well as Adrian, our son works voluntarily at "Headway" from Monday to Wednesdays and my husband and I used to be volunteers there before we moved to Ely, Cambs.

I must confess, I was very touched by these words and I think she is doing a wonderful job and deserves a lot of respect.

I used to be a Dr's receptionist (for 18 yrs part time) and although I enjoyed the work, I found it very frustrating as I really wanted to help the patients and the Drs were always extremely busy, but I always did my best to help.

Our very best wishes to miriam- may she continue to be the wonderful person she is.
