Hi Morry,
Just seen this article about you and The Mansell Street Garage. You and me go back a long way. To the days when my old man (Lenny Newman and your old Man Ted) were business neighbours. My dad had opened a factory in North Tenter St in 1953 and he used to send his car and the van into your garage for servicing and repairs. Previously he had worked for Raitz who were in Alie St, so I assume that he and Ted had known each other for a good few years before then.
I'm delighted to see that you're still running the business with the help of your sons. How are you keeping old pal? If I remember rightly, you're 4 yrs older than me. You must be 89 and pushing 90 for your next birthday. I'm 85 now and still playing golf, I packed up working 4 years ago when I sold my business to a couple of my staff.
Hopefully, you're still fit and well and that you'll get to read this message sometime soon. It would be really great to hear from you for a chat or by email.
Best wishes and kind regards,
Ronnie Newman

Came across this by accident. You may not remember me guys, I used to look after your trainees through Inner London Training. You both look the same, I think it was 20 years ago?
I am now retired and live in the Algarve. Best regards to you. Barbara Pinto.

As the Gentle Author kindly pointed out, this was the WWII Ambulance Station seen in Rose Henriques' paintings, The New Driver, and also Watching the Turn Out, both now on exhibition at Tower Hamlets Archives in Bancroft Road. I do hope the Courtnells get time to see the paintings of their splendid garage in wartime use.

Mansell Street Garage used to do work for a fleet management company that I used to work for. I used to speak to Gary, Murray and Terry on the phone almost everyday. It's so good to put a face to a name by reading this article. It was one of only a few garages that I looked forward to calling because they were an absolute pleasure to deal with and regularly brightened my day.
