It begins:
“Fain would I climb, but fear I to fall”.
Elizabeth I finished the couplet by scratching,
“Those who fear heights should not climb at all.”
Is that tale apocryphal? If not, is it a rather chilling comment on Raleigh’s execution?

Is there anyway someone can look for that and find it again for me?
I believe it was an ancestor. The Page’s eventually were sent over to the coast of Georgia USA with General Oglethorpe to raise crops for King George in 1735.

It is very worthwhile to know why the prisoners were incarcerated and their grievances.
I am interested to know why Thomas Peverel should be in Beauchamp Tower. Next to his inscription is one of Charles Neville, Earl of Westmorland yet I cannot find that he was a prisoner in the Tower. Possible Thomas was involved with the Rising of the North against Elizabeth I as were the Neville family? Can anyone enlighten me please?
