It’s heartening to know that an old-established shop like Blustons is still going strong, in the face of the life-sapping identical stores in most of today’s high streets and shopping ‘malls’. Fifty years ago my late father worked in a wholesale clothing suppliers in Commercial Street, just like some of the East End suppliers visited by Mr Bluston. I remember when I went there it was always a hive of activity, with orders being called out for ‘Cohen of Plymouth or ‘Levy of Portsmouth’. I have passed Blustons on many occasions and always admire the shop front. Long may they prosper!
