Thames Steam Tug and Lighterage Company Limited is such a mouthful,

Everyone on the river knew the Company as Limited.

I worked for Union Lighterage, Charrington Gardiner Locket. and of course Ltd and others.

I followed in his footsteps and worked all my life in shipping and forwarding – running my own company for many years b4 retirement.

My Great Uncle Bill Hicks was Labourmaster for William Cory. As his younger brother (my Grandfather) was Labourmaster for the Union Lighterage. Their other brother Jim Hicks, being Labourmaster for James W. Cook. Remembering as I can, the tugs, Swiftstone, Toughstone, Recruit etc.
When the City of London was primarily shipping and insurance.

Edwin worked there for 66 years, and Edwin Thomas died in about 1956 I think.
