I've really enjoyed browsing through Spitalfields Life in search of anything I can find about my ancestors Thomas Mecham and his brother in law Robert John Ward who ran The Phoenix pub in Brick Lane in 1841.
I believe The Phoenix was situated where the Shampan restaurant is now, so all the best to Monzur Hussain and Dayhem Ahmed pictured above!
If anyone has any information on my relatives or information about the pub please let me know. They are listed on the census as: Robert Ward/Publican/45. Sarah Ward. George Ward/Builders Apprentice/15. Samuel Gill/Male Servant/20.Charlotte Clark/Female Servant/20. George Robinson/Male Servant/12.
