Thomas Mann, pictured above, was a descendant of yeoman farmers. He set up and ran a small silk mill in Broadway. I wonder if he met Ann Duncombe of Spitalfields as a result of silk business. We have five generations of fathers and sons all called Thomas Mann.

The Thomas Mann who was the son of the man pictured was a solicitor, who in 1836 became chief clerk (ceo) of the newly established Register of Births, Marriages and Deaths. As such he oversaw the 1841 and 1851 Censuses.

I have traced my family tree to the Mann family of Harbury, although the Thomas Mann of my line (1750-1814) was a Yeoman farmer and married Catherine Bench. However Thomas was a popular name and could have been a cousin? Do you have more details? I’m definitely checking this out!
